My Priorities

The people of the 17th legislative district deserve a full-time Representative who is working for them. I am that leader and will focus on the fundamentals: affordability, safe communities, reliable infrastructure, and an economy that works for all where every person, family, and community feels included, respected, and has the opportunity to succeed.

After more than 30 years in public service as a biologist, public lands manager, state parks Commissioner, and Vancouver City Councilmember, I’ve seen firsthand how policy decisions impact working families, seniors, and our youth. I’ve helped fight wildfires, recover salmon populations, strengthen public safety services, and support housing stability. I’m running for the State House to deliver practical solutions rooted in science, fiscal responsibility, and the lived reality of the communities I serve.

It is imperative that we address affordability, modernize our infrastructure, ensure reliable and affordable energy, expand housing, and restore trust that the government is working for the people and not against them. One of our overriding objectives is living within our budgetary means and making every dollar count.

Creating Affordability for Families

Affordability isn’t optional, it is essential.
Raised in a hardworking family that taught me the value of responsibility and service, I have helped my extended family navigate rising costs, whether it’s housing, healthcare, or childcare. Today, as a small business owner, I face the same challenges many families and entrepreneurs face in securing resources and managing rising costs for rent, supplies, construction, and childcare.

I will work to:

  • Incentivize construction of workforce and middle-income housing

  • Increase state investments in affordable housing development

  • Encourage responsible density near transit and jobs

  • Reduce unnecessary permitting delays and regulatory barriers to get housing built faster

  • Support homelessness prevention programs, including behavioral and mental health treatment services

  • Improve access to affordable childcare so parents can stay in the workforce

Keeping People Safe

Keeping people safe should be a top priority of government.
Public safety is the government’s most fundamental responsibility. All people deserve safe neighborhoods, and first responders deserve the resources they need to do their jobs effectively and safely.

I will:

  • Ensure adequate staffing and training for law enforcement and emergency responders

  • Strengthen wildfire prevention and response capabilities

  • Expand behavioral health and first responder well-being

  • Improve coordination between state and local emergency services

  • Invest in prevention programs that reduce crime and instability

  • Seek support and resources for victims

Public safety requires both immediate response and long-term prevention.

Reliable, Affordable Energy for All

Washington has made strong commitments to clean energy, and I support those goals. Climate change is real, and transitioning to sustainable energy is essential to protecting our environment, public health, and economy. But that transition must be done responsibly without jeopardizing grid reliability or driving up utility costs for families already struggling with affordability.

I will support:

  • Investments in modernizing and expanding our energy grid

  • Accelerating transmission projects so renewable energy can reach communities

  • Supporting a balanced energy portfolio that protects reliability and affordability

  • Expanding workforce development in energy and infrastructure jobs

  • Ensuring energy policies do not disproportionately burden working families

  • Continue to evaluate and improve our energy code so it works for homeowners and developers
